It's not about the years in your life but the life in your years that count!
Where to begin? Let's start in the present (like a gift, right?). We have been living in Fairbanks, aka Squarebanks, Alaska for almost three years & for me, it's enough! The summers are breathtaking. But for those brief, few months of sun (24/7), we spend the next nine months or so, freezing! Plugging your vehicle in so it will start in the morning. Looking like the Michelin Man from all the layers of clothing that you have to wear to stay warm (not always successful). Roads are slick, or not plowed & people drive like it's bone-dry out there! Pulling out in front of you when the roads are like an ice skating rink & trying to stop without sliding .... let's just say, your adrenaline is pumping while your knuckles are white from clutching the steering wheel so tight!
If you haven't figured it out yet, Alaska is not for me. To visit, maybe. To live, NO CHANCE! Thankfully, there is an end in sight ... we leave Fairbanks in February 2009 & are headed to Colorado Springs, Colorado! A new chapter .... new beginning ....
